Biological Science Technician

Serves as the supervisory lead biological technician in the Outer Banks Group for field resource management activities. Supervises career seasonal GS-5 biological technicians and seasonal GS-5 biological technicians within their district. Conducts supervisory activities such as hiring of seasonals, payroll, approval of annual leave and sick leave, scheduling of staff, performance evaluations, etc. Oversees the Group's natural resources management activities related to the park Off-Road Vehicle Management Plan. Activities include wildlife and vegetation management, hydrological monitoring, water quality and meteorological monitoring, pest management, observations of shorebird nesting and breeding behaviors, sea turtle nesting monitoring. Assist with the implementation of scientific monitoring and research planning through the development of science plans and internal park science programs. Inputs resource management data into appropriate databases. Assist in planning and conducting biological surveys for the conservation and recovery of listed and at-risk species and their habitats. Assist in studying and preparing reports on monitoring and research projects for shorebirds, sea turtles, and/or other wildlife with emphasis on federally listed species. Develop and use automated databases to enter, organize, and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data. Provide work direction and guidance to lower graded technicians, volunteers, students and others who are involved in resources management activities. Conduct outreach and provide information on fish and wildlife resources. Operate a variety of field equipment commonly used in research studies. Locate, capture, census, mark, and tag terrestrial and aquatic species of fish, wildlife, and plants. Communicate with other divisions to ensure compliance with resource management activities. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. In order to qualify at the GS-08 level, you must meet one of the following:
Experience:
At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal service. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing biological science tasks common to natural resource management such as collecting and organizing field data, conducting vegetation inventory and monitoring programs for a variety of species and communities; coordinating, leading, administering and executing a wide variety of field techniques pertaining to exotic plant management; plant identification, using plant keys. Experience should have included conducting field surveys to document and assess animal and/or plant presence, abundance, reproduction, management issues, population dynamics and climate conditions using established protocols and use of standard scientific equipment (such as remote weather stations and GPS); following established protocols; and managing and summarizing wildlife, vegetation, and/or climate data using computer software. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 27 semester hours of graduate education with coursework in a field of study directly related to the position to be filled including plant biology, ecology, botany, forestry, agriculture, etc. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have six months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 21 semester hours of graduate work in a field of study that is directly-related to the work of this position (50% of the education requirement). The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
